Short version: Wavepane doesn't sell or share your information. We don't run ads. We don't build advertising profiles. We collect the smallest amount of data we need to make the product work, and we tell you what it is below.

What we collect

Contact form. When you fill out the form on this site, we get your name, email address, and message. We use that information only to reply to you. We don't add you to any marketing list.

Pre-order list. If you submit your email through the "notify me" form, we keep that email so we can let you know when Wavepane ships. That's it. We don't share it with anyone.

Website analytics. Because the site is hosted on Cloudflare, we have access to aggregate edge-side analytics — page-view counts, country-level geography of visits, referring domains. There is no JavaScript tracker, no cookie, and no fingerprinting; the information is whatever Cloudflare can derive from the request itself as it passes through the edge.

Your device. Once a Wavepane is set up on your WiFi, it makes periodic requests to public weather and tide APIs (Open-Meteo, NOAA) so it can show the right data. Your device's IP address is sent in those requests as a normal part of HTTP; the responses contain tide and weather data, which stays on the device. We don't see those requests.

Anonymous device telemetry (opt-in). The firmware offers an option, during the initial WiFi setup, to send a daily anonymous heartbeat to wavepane.com containing: firmware build number and version, battery percentage and voltage, WiFi signal strength, free memory, and the duration of the most recent refresh cycle. This is off by default; you choose during setup whether to enable it. We use the data to spot regressions in new firmware builds (battery drain, WiFi reliability, crash rates) before they affect many users. No location, no MAC address, no SSID, no tide-station identity, no IP-address logging. If you change your mind, factory-reset the device (hold the wake button 10 seconds at boot) and re-run setup with the box unchecked.

Crash reports (opt-in, shares the telemetry toggle). When the device experiences a hard reset (a software panic, watchdog timeout, or brownout), it can send a small report on the next successful boot identifying the reset cause and the firmware build it was running. The same opt-in checkbox during setup controls this. Reports contain no identifying information.

QR scans. Each Wavepane displays a QR code that links to this site. When someone scans it, we record that a scan happened: the time, an approximate location (city/region/country, derived by Cloudflare from the network the scan came from), and which device's code was scanned. We use this to understand interest and, for our partner businesses that host a device, to attribute referrals. We do not store the scanner's IP address, and a scan involves no account, name, or contact information. To connect a scan to a later purchase, we set one essential first-party cookie (see Cookies below).

What we don't do

  • We don't sell, rent, or share your personal information with anyone for any reason.
  • We don't run advertising on this site or in the product.
  • We don't build profiles about you.
  • We don't track you across other sites.

Third parties

We use a small number of services to run Wavepane:

  • Cloudflare — hosts the website and the Worker that powers the contact form and OTA endpoints. Receives the requests in transit.
  • Resend — delivers transactional email (contact-form messages, pre-order confirmations) to us.
  • Open-Meteo and NOAA CO-OPS — public data sources your Wavepane queries directly for tide and weather. We have no relationship with you on these.

Cookies

This site uses only essential cookies, never analytics or advertising cookies:

  • Cookies set by Cloudflare for security and bot mitigation (e.g. the Turnstile widget on the contact form).
  • A single first-party referral cookie (wp_ref) set when you scan a Wavepane's QR code. It stores only the scanned device's short code, lasts 60 days, and lets us attribute a purchase to the device you saw. It holds no personal information and is not shared with anyone or used to track you across other sites.

Your rights

You can ask us to delete any information we have about you (your contact-form submissions, your pre-order email, anything else). Send a request through the contact form on the homepage and we'll handle it within 30 days.

Children

Wavepane is not directed at children under 13 and we don't knowingly collect information from them.

Changes

We'll update this page if our practices change. The "Effective" date at the top reflects the most recent update.
