The tide at Kennebunkport

Goose Rocks is the kind of beach the tide rearranges: shallow, gently shelving, and nine feet of vertical range. Where you put the chair at ten o’clock is not where you want it at two.

What the water does here

Kennebunkport runs two highs and two lows a day, and rarely the same size twice. Between low and high the water moves about 8.8 feet, averaged across a week of predictions.

A Wavepane on the wall shows that as a picture rather than a table: the water sits where the water sits, and the wave on top grows or flattens with the swell outside. It wakes every half hour, redraws, and goes back to sleep. Nothing to open, nothing to check.
