The tide at Newport

A sailing town where the tide decides what time you leave. Narragansett Bay's range is modest, but the current through the East Passage is not.

What the water does here

Newport runs two highs and two lows a day, near enough evenly spaced. Between low and high the water moves about 3.5 feet, averaged across a week of predictions.

A Wavepane on the wall shows that as a picture rather than a table: the water sits where the water sits, and the wave on top grows or flattens with the swell outside. It wakes every half hour, redraws, and goes back to sleep. Nothing to open, nothing to check.
